GMP1 database structure

Data from regional reports were transformed into a form that was suitable for both database development and analytical processing. Data had to be extracted from textual form, tables, citations and charts into a common standardized data structure with shared property lists (matrices, chemicals, units…).

Transfer of the data from reports to a database consisted of the following consecutive steps:

  • Identification of collected data
  • Datasets volume identification
  • Design of a common data structure
  • Extraction of data from regional reports into a common data structure
  • Transformation of extracted data into a database

Aggregated values originating in GMP reports are stored in a relational database consisting of 10 basic entities:

  • UN Region
  • Country
  • Site
  • Matrix
  • Compound
  • Parameter
  • Record
  • Aggregation
  • Percentile
  • Unit
